Thomas "Travis" Binsted
Dad wasn't drafted. He says: "I was in Nam from 9/69-7/70. I started with the Third Marine Division, 3rd. Battalion, 4th. Marine Regiment (3/4) and when they were pulled out, I went to the First Marine Division, Second Battalion,26th. Marines, or 2/26. They were also pulled out and I went to 1/7, also in the First Division."
As told by Travis Binsted's son, Seth who graciously scanned his father's slides and shared them with us.
Platoon Sergeant Wayne Brown, Infantryman 4th Bn., 3rd Infantry, 11th Light Infantry Bde.
"Dad was drafted in 1968 and went to basic training at Fort Lewis in Washington state. After basic training he was shipped to Fort Benning, Georgia, for NCO training. He was what they called a "Shake n Bake" Sergeant. He arrived in Vietnam, December 1969 and I was born January 1970. He flew to Honolulu in July of 1970 for R & R and my mom and I flew there to meet him. He spent most of his time in Vietnam in the bush or on Fire Support Base, San Juan Hill in I Corp area of Vietnam, Quang Ngai province. He received 2 Purple Hearts, a bronze star, Air Medal and others. He returned home in November of 1970."

James “Jim” L. Buckner
Buckner had a decorated, 24 year military career. He served in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division in 1966 to 1967. He returned to Vietnam in 1969 where he served with the US Army Special Forces Group.
During his active service, Buckner received numerous awards including: Bronze Star “V” with five Oak Clusters, The Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Metal with four Oak Leaf Clusters. He proudly wore his Combat Infantryman’s badge, Airborne Wings and Ranger Special Forces Tab.
Buckner’s slide collection has been lovingly share with us by his daughter in law Amy.
Denis Denning served two tours in Vietnam with the United States Army. He recieved the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and a distinguished metal of service.
Sgt. C.R. Foster, 'B' Battery 1st LAAM Marines
1968
Gary C. Huested was an artillery forward observer with an infantry company in the 1st Cavalry for most of his Vietnam tour. He served with them during action into Cambodia. Huested was also a 105mm firing battery XO. Huested served in Vietnam from October 1969 – October 1970.
Major John R. McCormick was a West Point graduate (class of 1961) he served two tours in Vietnam.
1966-1967 as United States Army Captain during his first tour, leading a troop of commanders known as the 'McCormick Raiders' at the age of 28.
1971-1972 as a major for the United States Army. It was during this time that he worked on a Special Operations unit, flying in over 250 combat missions.
A decorated veteran, Major John R. McCormick received two Army Commendations medals, two Bronze Stars, 10 Air Medals (two for valor), the Legion of Merit, the George Washington Honor Medal and the Cold War Medal.
McCormick's slides were generously contributed by his daughter, Aimee.
D.W. Russell was the inspiration for The Vietnam Slide Project. His daughter, Jacky, (a close friend of the project's founder) discovered her father's slide collection after his death. Wanting to learn more about her father's experiences in Vietnam, Jacky offered his slides to The Vietnam Slide Project to be digitized, inspiring veterans and children of veterans to look into the past.

Dennis Thornton served in the First Air Cavalry division of the United States Army. He served a few miles north of Saigon between 1969-70. He spent most of his 14 month tour in country working on the division newspaper and magazine. In addition he spent a few months on temporary duty with U.S. Stars and Stripes based in Saigon, getting around the country on assignments.
James Allan Townsend, June 16, 1947-April 27, 2015
US Army A Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry 4th Infantry Division.
James Townsend served in the United States Army from 1967-1973, serving in Vietnam from September 1968-1969. His slides were kindly provided by his daughters. Townsend passed away last year of Agent Orange related Parkinson's disease sustained in Vietnam.
Billy Vichko served a year in Vietnam, from March 1969-March 1970. He served in the United States Navy.
This collection of slides was contributed by Eco Relics , an architectural salvage company from Jacksonville, Florida. The collection was 'found' with little to no information about the veteran who shot them.
We know from the signage on a transportation vehicle the soldiers in this photo collection are members of the elite 5th Special Forces. Unit.
